School Uniform

Introducing The Uniform:

We encourage all our learners to ‘Take Pride’ in their appearance by wearing the correct school uniform everyday.

A high standard of personal appearance is expected of all learners and anyone arriving at school in non-uniform clothing can expect to be sanctioned unless an explanatory note is received.

It is important that the standard of uniform reflects a pride and sense of belonging in the school and presents our students in the best possible light to visitors and the wider community.

Full school uniform is expected at all times so please make sure your child wears the correct uniform and adheres to the uniform code.  No facial piercings are allowed along with non natural hair colouring (blue or pink etc).

Hoodies are not part of our school uniform and will be confiscated if worn to school. Please ensure your child wears a sensible coat for wet and cold periods.

• Uniforms give students a sense of belonging to a particular school and create an identity for the school in the community.

• Uniforms show that you are part of an organisation. Wearing it says we’re all in this together.

• A school uniform teaches students to dress smartly and take pride in their appearance

• Uniforms help learners to prepare for when they leave school and may have to dress smartly or wear a uniform

And perhaps most importantly, a uniform means leraners don’t have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, worrying about what you look like isn’t so important. There is no competition about being dressed in the latest trend, which would put a great deal of financial pressure on students and parents. Potential bullies have one less target for their insults; it’s hard to make fun of what someone is wearing when you’re dressed exactly the same.

Reinforcing The Uniform Code:

The uniform code at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen will fall into 2 codes.  These codes clearly state which uniform is to be worn at which time of year so that we can maintain standards throughout the school.  We are not just representing our school, we are now representing our community school.
